Your roof plays a critical role in your home’s weather protection as well as its appearance. An often neglected—but essential—part of the roof is the soffit. At A1 Siding & Roofing, we recommend investing in HardieSoffit® panels due to their durability and design versatility, and ensuring that they’re installed by an expert roofing and siding contractor. Read on to learn about the benefits of this product along with information about how it’s installed.
What Does the Soffit Board Do?
You could liken the soffit board to vertical siding—the soffit protects the underside of the roof’s eaves and porch ceilings from rain. However, there is a crucial difference: some types of soffit boards have built-in holes, which allow them to act as a ventilation system.
How Is It Installed?
First off, the contractor will have to make sure the framing of the eaves can support the soffit boards. Either steel or wood framing will do. While positioning the vent holes toward the outside of the eave, the contractor will then nail the soffit to the substrate.
The correct spacing and depth of the nails depends on the width of the soffit board. To ensure the installation of their products remain consistent, James Hardie® has published a guide for panel fastener specifications.
What Makes HardieSoffit Boards Different?
HardieSoffit panels can mimic the texture of classic materials like wood. To make sure the nails don’t ruin HardieSoffit panels’ visual appeal, your contractor should use the ColorPlus® touch-up pen to hide the nailheads.
Whether you need soffit or siding installation work done, be sure to hire qualified contractors. Looking for experienced contractors near your area?
